Great Mountain Views

We spent two nights here with our family of seven, five adults and two children, and it was one of our worst stays. The Standard Room was damp and covered in mold on the walls, curtains, and mosquito nets. The smell was unbearable, and the air felt unsafe. We were shown another room in the same condition. Since there were no other rooms, all seven of us ended up together in one Family Room. That room wasn’t as shown on Agoda either. It was open-air, which hadn’t been mentioned there, and the mosquito nets were moldy and torn. Some furniture was dirty. The restaurant’s wooden chairs had visible signs of termites and bedbugs, so sitting there was uncomfortable. Space was so limited that two adults had to share one bed. The overall state felt poor and unhealthy. The property seemed old and badly neglected, raising concerns beyond appearance, about health and safety. We contacted Agoda and were offered just USD 21, with the explanation that it was the best they could do because the hotel refused a refund. That was deeply disappointing. Selling rooms with mold and unsafe conditions and refusing accountability is unacceptable from both the hotel and Agoda. This place shouldn’t be listed until it’s properly cleaned, repaired, and inspected. No family, especially with children, should have to deal with mold and bedbugs on vacation. If those things matter to you, think twice about staying here. I’d also think twice about booking through Agoda, since they took no real responsibility for the properties they promote. Update after management response, 23.10.2025 Dear Great Mountains Resort Team, Thanks for replying, but I want to clarify a few things. This was mold, not humidity. I know the difference, and I live in Bali, where I experience humidity every day. If it had been humidity, I would have called it that. The visible walls and smell made it clear to me this was mold. When I raised the problem, a staff member suggested using the air conditioner or a dehumidifier. Those might reduce humidity, but they don’t remove mold. I recommend getting a proper mold specialist. Painting over affected walls isn’t a real fix. We had booked two rooms, including the large villa you called your “best room.” The smaller room with mold was an additional booking. Because you couldn’t offer an alternative or a properly cleaned replacement, we all had to stay in the one larger room. So there was no complimentary upgrade, despite that claim. On the first day, while we were all in the larger room because of the mold, you asked us to pay extra for it. When we objected, you said you were doing us a “favor” by letting us stay without an extra charge. That wasn’t a favor, it was fair, since you had not refunded the unusable room. Calling it a goodwill gesture in your response is misleading and gives future guests a false impression. If that’s what you consider hospitality, so be it, but we experienced no resolution or genuine accountability. I also strongly suggest checking the kitchen tables and chairs. We noticed bedbugs there. I understand these things can happen in tropical environments, but they need to be addressed promptly for future guests’ comfort.

It’s so quiet and special here in nature, and the staff were friendly and helped me every time. They kept making us smile and made the stay happy. The great mountain view made my holiday special. I hope we can come back next year. Thank you!

The rooms were spacious, with gorgeous views over the rice fields and mountain. It’s a relaxing, authentic family-run place, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Sidemen is a 15-20 minute drive away, and the staff can arrange a driver. I’d definitely stay again.

The view was incredible, and the location is farther from our home, which is exactly why we came. The room felt really good, like my grandma’s room, and the staff treated me and my partner so nicely.
