I needed a quick rest after a long trek up Mount Batukaru. The coffee shop stays open until 10:30 pm, and there’s also a water park with a 20k rupiah entrance fee, though I was too tired to try it. The place has a calm, residential feel and a nice, spacious front yard. I arrived at 8:30 pm, and from the outside it looked like a simple, pleasant house. The curtains covering the garden-facing wall were an odd green-screen color, but once I opened them in the morning, the rice field view made up for it. I loved that view with my morning coffee. The furniture and interior are simple, like a newly renovated house, which was fine for what I paid, about 276k rupiah a night. The hot water lasted only about five minutes, since the electric water container seemed to hold around five liters. Overall, good for a quick rest and enjoying the view.

We left at 2 a.m. after being bitten badly by bedbugs. I went to reception, but nobody was there, only one security guard who didn’t know what to do. He tried calling the manager and got no answer. Luckily I had a motorbike, but the nearest doctor was about 1.5 hours away, near Canggu. I called the next day, and reception said the manager wasn’t there and would call me back. No one ever did. I emailed, called, and contacted Agoda without getting a response. By the third day I’d had enough and kept calling, saying I’d report them to the police and sue them. Finally, the manager messaged me, but wouldn’t even speak on the phone. I can’t believe this place has a permit to operate, or that Agoda keeps it on the platform after so many terrible reviews. I suspect the good reviews are fake because they’re all under local names, possibly staff. Believe the bad reviews. If you’re willing to risk your health and experience the horror of being eaten alive by thousands of bedbugs, then go ahead and stay here.

I was here with a group on an organized tour and asked to move rooms so I’d have somewhere safe to sleep. They did move me, but the second villa was barely any better. Some of the villas have serious damp problems and no ventilation. In one, water dripped down a wall, and there was black mold in the corners, on the headboards, shower curtain, and pillows. These rooms aren’t fit to stay in and feel unsafe. I would have left if I could. Maybe other villas are fine, but they need to stop renting out the moldy ones. They’re completely unacceptable.

The service was good, the staff were very kind, and the food was tasty. It was average local food, but quite okay, and the prices were cheap too. The main downside is the room. There are no doors between the toilet and bedroom, which feels uncomfortable when one person is using the toilet and the other is in the bedroom. Some of the walls looked dirty, as did the kitchen, especially the bathroom and kitchen floors. But it was only for one night, so it was fine.
