Quirin Semarang

The room was a decent size, but pretty conventional, and they didn’t even provide complimentary water. It’s conveniently located near the Queen City mall. The price felt a bit high, maybe because I visited during the holiday season.

The main draw for my business trip was that gemstone traders gather here, which makes Quirin Hotel Semarang a handy place for meetings. It’s centrally located and familiar to people in the trading community. My trade agent suggested it, and IDR300k for a night seemed fair to me, though I’ve seen similarly priced three-star hotels around Indonesia. There’s no breakfast. The room was comfortable, the bed and linen were good, and the hospitality was warm. But the towels were small and rough. In the room there wasn’t much, not even a hot water kettle. The complimentary supplies were sparse: one tea bag, one creamer, and one pack of sugar. The bathroom had a slight smell, and the shampoo and soap were smaller than what regular hotels usually provide. For me, it was a basic place, more like a lodge than a hotel, so I’d give it 3/5. The room amenities and facilities could be better for travelers with higher expectations.

We’ve stayed here nearly every time we spend the night in Semarang by car, and we’ve been coming back since our first stay almost 15 years ago. The location and simple rooms make us feel welcome. It’s easy to park the car inside the property, and it feels safe.

At night there are lots of food stalls and a minimarket in front of the hotel. The location is strategic and easy to reach. The room was quite good, though the AC is an older type and the TV only has national channels.
