Breakfast at the in-house restaurant was decent, and the egg was cooked perfectly, but the fried rice portion was tiny. We asked for a third plate to share, and it took quite a while to arrive. The room itself was very basic, just a bed, mirror, toilet, and small drying rack. It felt rundown, and I saw and squashed a baby cockroach. Sound insulation was poor too, so children shouting outside woke me the next morning. We got in around 8pm, and it was suuuper cold. The wind was blowing hard at 20°C, which felt more like 15°C. At least the room had very reliable hot water. It wasn’t an amazing experience, but adequate for a night before hiking. You still have to drive to the mountain, about 10-15 minutes.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, and breakfast was really tasty. It was quiet for sleeping, with clean rooms and a hot shower. A very pleasant place, definitely recommend it when visiting Sembalun.

You can rent a scooter here, which makes it easy to get around the caldera and see the points of interest. The hot water was great and the rooms were fine, though they could use some upgrading. There was no Wi-Fi in the room.

The room doors opened toward majestic Mt Rinjani, so we could keep checking whether the clouds had cleared enough to see the elusive mountain. We had a pleasant stay at Rinjani Garden. A kind, cheerful lady named Elly runs the place with Lembah Rinjani and personally makes breakfast for us each morning. There’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms, but for big downloads, offline music, or movies, the hotel cafe has a fast connection. Hope to come back next year.
