Arnawa Inn

I stayed two nights, and my $200 went missing from my bag after the first night. It was money I'd set aside for a Myanmar visa and scuba diving in Gili T. I was sure I'd left it there and had only taken $100 to exchange. When I checked in, staff had told me there was no spare key and that I was the only one with a key. I went out that night, returned at 3 a.m. and went straight to bed. When I raised the missing money, they called me a cheat and said I was lying to get money. I said I'd report it to the police and would forgive whoever took it, but they wouldn't admit anything, so I went to the station to file a complaint. By coincidence, I saw two hotel staff there. Hotels have to report guests daily and submit passport documents, so I pointed them out to the detectives as suspects. Police took them in for about 30 minutes and found Indonesian rupees worth about USD 200 in their bags. They had just come back from an exchange centre after changing my money. The staff apologized and asked me to forgive them. I believed they might have done this to others too, so I refused. I wanted to file a complaint, but the police refused, saying they wanted to avoid harming tourism's image, and told me to take the money and leave. Since I had to stay one more night, I went back to the hotel. Staff asked me to leave and offered to refund that second night. I told them they owed me an apology and should be in prison instead of working at a hotel. But it was 11 p.m., and I didn't want to spend the evening searching for another place, so I stayed. I left in the morning and won't come back. If you want to risk having your belongings stolen, stay there. Otherwise, Bali has plenty of other options. Stay away from this hotel. They are f***** thieves.

This is my second stay here, and I've found the staff honest and reliable. Maybe things have changed since the earlier bad reviews. The rooms are large, with a shower and toilet, and the beds are comfortable. It's inexpensive, so I don't expect high quality, but it's comfortable and I have no complaints. Close to everything, yet tucked away on a very quiet back lane.

It’s inexpensive, which is a plus, but the place is poorly maintained. I’m very disappointed and wouldn’t stay there.
