Dragonfly Senaru Lodge

We didn’t stay at the lodge, but ate there twice in three days, and both times every plate was cleared. The food is excellent and cheap. The Dragonfly Steak, chicken breast with peanut satay sauce, peppered mash and veggies, was so good I ordered it both visits. The fresh, hot mini donuts with fruit, sauces and ice cream were delicious too. My husband had the chicken and fried rice. The views are incredible, and the atmosphere has a chilled vibe. The staff and locals made it such an enjoyable place, with guitars, singing and laughter. If we’d stayed longer, we’d have eaten here every day. Great place, 10/10 all round 😀 ✌️ Random & Andy UK 🇬🇧

This was our first stop in Lombok 🇮🇩, and I’ll definitely come back. The drive from the airport took a good three hours, with a lunch stop, but Dragonfly had a lot going for it once we arrived. The mountain views are amazing 👀🗻🏞️, and the waterfall entrance is right nearby. It’s a two-minute walk to the toll gate, then you can start trekking 🥾. The longest route takes seven hours if you want to tackle all three waterfalls. There are also a few good restaurants next door, and Dragonfly serves really good food with breakfast included. Shops along the road have snacks, shampoo, soap and other basics, and there’s a BNI bank ATM across the road. Our room was big and clean, the air con worked, and the water was clean too. One thing to know: they may switch off the water heater after 10pm, so you might not get hot water late at night. The owner was friendly and efficient, and could organize things and get them done. So why not check them out, especially if you need a night before trekking to the waterfalls? #lombokdragoninn

The view over the jungle was breathtaking, and it was lovely to watch a family of monkeys playing in the trees. The staff, apart from the owner, were kind. My sheets were super soft and comfortable, and the very basic room and bathroom were clean, though they smelled bad. The bathroom flooded when I showered, the curtains were see-through, and a girl I met there had a whole family of ants in her bed, as other reviews have mentioned. They only provide plastic water bottles, with no refill option. But my experience with the owner and a driver arranged by them was really disrespectful. As a 26-year-old woman travelling alone, I felt extremely unsafe with the driver. He drove recklessly, texting while driving on the wrong side of the road in pouring rain, and secretly filmed me. At first the owner handled my concerns well. That changed when I decided to leave early because of the driver, who lives in the village, and a terrifying night with monkeys on my balcony. Monkeys might get into the property, so if you hear what sounds like drunk men or burglars trashing the place, it’s just a cute monkey family! I politely explained why I didn’t feel comfortable staying and asked whether I could get a refund for the second of my two booked nights, while saying I’d understand if not. The owner responded condescendingly and dismissed my feelings as “an unreasonable excuse.” He also said, “if you have no intention to come to my place why are you here.” No one needs an excuse to leave when they feel unsafe. His response made me doubt he’d do anything about the driver, and I wouldn’t recommend supporting someone who treats guests, especially women on their own, this way. There are much better places in the area for an even more attractive price.

The room was tidy and clean, and the location and price looked good at first. But the pancakes were disappointing, almost inedible. Then our key broke in the lock, and when we told the receptionist, they asked us to pay for a new lock barrel because there was no spare key. That seemed highly unusual for accommodation. My partner reluctantly paid, but I felt uncomfortable about it and asked for a refund. I asked at least 10 times to speak with the manager, and the receptionist kept refusing. When the manager finally arrived in a fancy car, he looked bleary-eyed and hungover. We felt unfairly charged for something outside our control. We’d planned to stay a couple more nights, but found a much better place just down the road, with more amenities and a friendlier atmosphere. The staff, especially the younger employees, could use customer service training and a more professional approach. They were drinking late into the night, with empty vodka and beer bottles scattered around. The location and price were appealing, but the poor service and experience left us dissatisfied.
