Rinjani Base Camp

Our three-day, two-night Rinjani trek began after we registered at the Rinjani Park office. Guides Anton and Saba were friendly, helpful, patient, and spoke good English. They shared plenty about the volcano and daily life in Lombok. There were six porters for our group of seven, and they did a great job. They brought water and served three meals during the day, including spaghetti bolo, rice, and curry soup, along with tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and vegetables. They set up and packed the tents, sleeping bags, and pillows too. We could ask them how far we had to walk or when the next break was. The owner at JABAAL is very experienced and explained the whole process of climbing Rinjani, including safety and how to prepare. I booked my trek from Kuta and had to get up at 3 am, so I was tired and hadn't rested by the time I started climbing. Even so, this company at Rinjani base amp is a professional outfit. They provide enough guides for whatever your level and will keep you safe from start to finish. The service was amazing.

We were a group of seven and had an amazing time. Awenk arranged everything perfectly, along with guide Karim and the rest of the supporting stuff. Thanks to Ira for the trip to the summit! We did a two-night, three-day hike, skipping camp 2, with the summit, hot springs, and lake.

The organisation was really bad, and I can't recommend this company. We asked for a four-day, three-night tour and specifically checked whether they had warm jackets, gloves, and hiking poles. They said yes to everything, but then it became a three-day, two-night trip because of “misunderstandings.” The price changed too. Only two people in our group got poles, garden gloves, and very thin jackets. Everyone else had nothing, not even plastic rain covers. We didn't know where we were going or what was planned. The sleeping bags and mattresses were thin as well. Our guide was nice but never explained anything. One group went down after a night without a guide.
