The place feels like a rustic Balinese hideaway, away from the bustle elsewhere in Bali. It’s a little removed from things to do in Sidemen, but we liked that. When we wanted to go out, we hired a scooter. Just be aware there’s a steep, winding stretch of road for about 1km heading into town; it’s fine after that. We loved the gardens, the refreshing pool, the generous food at very affordable prices, the lovely rice field views, and the friendly, helpful staff. We miss Kubu Sakian and would return in a heartbeat.

The rice fields surround this peaceful place, with lovely views all around. It felt like a chance to reconnect with nature. That also means being around its animals and sounds. If you’re not used to thin walls and various nighttime animal noises, bring good earplugs. Part of the beauty here is learning to accept all that.

The setting is lovely, surrounded by farmland and mountains, and nearby village walks took us through peaceful, scenic countryside. We only stayed one night, which felt too short. I’d have liked more time to take in the calm and explore the nearby village and countryside. Kubu Sakian Villa’s rooms were spotless and nicely presented, with comfortable beds, private outdoor showers and little porches for coffee or wine. The colorful gardens are carefully kept, and the very large pool was clean. The restaurant and bar look out over farmland, with plenty of tasty food to choose from.

Eka was the star of our stay, and it was a pleasure meeting her. We liked the lovely views, the quiet, and the rice bowls. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed two extra days. Getting in and out can be tricky: the road needs repairs, and you generally need a taxi or scooter to go anywhere. If you’re after some peace and quiet and don’t mind using a scooter to get around, this is a great place.
