Hotel Grand Mandarin Singkawang

The staff at security were very helpful, and parking was plentiful, split between the basement and the area in front of the hotel. Rooms were fairly clean and affordable, with Wi-Fi in the room. It’s a pretty good hotel in a convenient location.

There’s plenty of parking, and apart from the noise, things are about what you’d expect for the price. The hotel is right by Pasar Hong Kong, which makes the location very convenient, and the room was large, clean enough, and simply furnished. Noise is the main problem. Traffic on the busy road outside carries on from early morning until after midnight, and motorbikes are clearly audible in the room. The housekeeping team also starts at 7am. Doors slam and trolleys rumble near the lift lobby, so it’s hard to sleep through. The owner could try sound reduction in the lobby, perhaps carpeting the floor, or have housekeeping start after 9am.

I paid almost 300 thousand rupiah for this hotel, and the breakfast they served was like the picture attached. The room was clean, but the low-voltage air conditioner didn’t cool it down. The food is what really brought the rating down. They served it like they didn’t care.

The view was nice, and the TV had lots of channels. There was a thermos, mug, biscuits, and sachets of coffee and tea, and the air conditioner was good. It was clean, though not very clean. The hot water was broken.
