Rakai Garung Coffee is a relaxed place for working or catching up, with affordable coffee and an artsy, traditional feel. I tried the Cappuccino for 15,000 Rupiah, and it was delicious, with a good coffee and milk balance and no watery taste. Menus run from 15,000 to 20,000 Rupiah, which is affordable for this area. The barista was friendly, easy to talk to, and explained the menu well. Just south of Sambisari Temple, the cafe is easy to reach, though large plants partly hide it. The logo sign could be bigger. Parking is limited, but drivers can use the road shoulder. It’s semi-indoor with no AC, and has different kinds of tables for working or chatting. Bamboo furniture and lots of plants give it a comfortable place to unwind.

The people here were very friendly, and the hospitality was great. I came for the food and drinks, not to stay in a room. The drinks were okay and priced about as expected, but only a 3/5 for taste. I was disappointed that the pizza I got was burnt, even though the ones other people posted looked delicious. The cafe seems geared toward guests staying here and staff relaxing, and it could use better upkeep. Outlets aren’t available everywhere. The place gets a 2/5 from me: the lighting was dim and uncomfortable, and it looked quite different from the photos on Google Maps. I hope cleanliness improves and the pizza is better next time. If you’re staying here or nearby, do stop in.
