Dolin Cottage

Dolin Cottage is the only place I tried in Lagundri that really felt like home. The other homestays I stayed in were all pretty basic and local. It’s peaceful here but still very close to the surf spot. The mahogany cottage has lovely interiors and a nice garden, and the rooms are clean and spacious, with comfy beds and pillows. AC and WiFi are included. Dolin’s a great host and speaks English well. If you’re staying longer, they’ll set you up with a small kitchen so you can cook. They’ve just opened a restaurant and bar next door, though I didn’t try the food.

The wave is right there in front of the window, and the get-out spot is just outside, so it’s an easy walk back. The room had AC, a fridge, a shower and a great porch. Dolin helped us sort out transport and was a really cool guy. He also owns the restaurant next door, where the fish tacos and beer were both great and reasonably priced. We’ll book ahead next time. Best place to stay in Sorake.

The cottages are in a great spot, and I’d happily stay here again. My wife and I spent a week with Dolin, and he and his family were the warmest hosts we had during two months in Indonesia. They’re kind and helpful, and I’d definitely recommend staying here.

A peaceful end of the beach, especially nice if you turn in early. The rooms are the best along the beach, with comfortable beds, and they bring tea and coffee right to your door in the morning.
