Telunas Private Island

I thought I'd be bored after the first day of our three days here with my mother, during a ten-day trip through Indonesia and SG. I couldn't have been more wrong, and now I want to come back. We settled quickly into the quiet island rhythm, cicadas and all. The overwater villas are roomy and nicely decorated, meals from the a la carte menu were excellent, and the facilities are well maintained. I'm not used to world food, but there was the odd steak or pasta too. The staff's smiles, their arranged activities and everything else available made the stay. Tika, Moha, Ella, Rangaf, Cici, Jojo, the restaurant guy, the chef, Stephan? from watersports, my fishing companion, the two lovely masseuses, and all the people who keep the island pristine, thank you. There's a private beach, an infinity pool, volleyball courts and football fields. The island is self-sufficient for energy, and maybe grey water management could come next. You can watch the stars, hear the waves and feel the breeze. I want to go back!

My kids still talk about Uncle Sharu teaching them to fish, the restaurant's ‘magic man’ showing them tricks, Ella looking after them while I had a massage, and Uncle Bus playing guitar at the campfire. They also made a friend and had a great time together. There was so much to do as a family, from the beach and sea sports to fishing, pottery, a nearby village visit, movie and campfire nights, and the kids club. With just 15 villas, the place feels wonderfully laid back and never too crowded. We had such a blast making memories and really didn't want to leave. The Balinese massage was one of the best I've had, and I've tried many. The staff at Telunas have the kindest smiles and warmest hearts. One room note: I knew there was no air-conditioning before we came, but it was warm the first night and I struggled to fall asleep. The staff offered another standing fan. Pack long sleeves and pants if mosquitoes tend to bite you!

The villa was spotless, the beds were comfortable, and the balcony had gorgeous sea views. The food was fresh, tasty, and varied too. Transfers from the Batam ferry jetty were easy, with a private boat straight to the island, much smoother than the process for Nikoi Island. Dina was wonderful with the children, even playing with them outside the kids’ club's regular hours, and the Easter weekend activities were a highlight: mangrove planting, games, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The kids’ club itself was outstanding, and the overwater spa was amazing. The staff were organised, professional, and attentive, and really tried to personalise the stay. The island is even better than the website suggests, especially for families. I wish we'd known how lovely it would be and booked four or five nights instead of two. I'll be back.

The calm, beautiful setting made it easy to unplug and relax. Our rooms were thoughtfully designed with lovely furniture, and every meal was delicious and clearly made with care. Vincen went above and beyond and made the stay memorable. From arrival, the staff made us feel welcome and looked after. Telunas Private Island was a wonderful, rejuvenating escape, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for something special.
