D’Kailash Retreat

The view from my room and the restaurant was incredible, and I really enjoyed the breakfast and mie goreng. My room was clean and cute, and I was glad I chose D'Kailash. I even extended my stay. I was traveling alone and injured myself while riding a scooter, which made walking difficult. The couple who run the place went out of their way to keep me comfortable and safe. They took such good care of me that I felt like part of their family. They didn’t have to do all that, and I’ll always be grateful.

The location is beautiful, but it’s isolated, and despite the listing saying there was a restaurant, there wasn’t one. We tried to contact the hotel owner but couldn’t reach him. We chose the best and most expensive room, booked and paid a month ahead, but on arrival found out it had been given to someone else. The only room offered was small, dark, below standard, beside the road and above a utility shed, with an unsafe staircase. When we went to see it, the manager’s family were clearing out their belongings. They wouldn’t honor our prepaid booking and wanted cash for this questionable room. We had to find somewhere else at the last minute. Be careful.

Gede and his wife were attentive, lovely hosts, and the setting is gorgeous. But transport is a major issue, so make sure you have your own way in and out. During our trip out from the hotel, we were abused and forced into a car halfway along the journey. Read the “noteworthy details”.

We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous mountain setting. The in-house massage with Vita was fabulous and so relaxing. Thanks to Vita and Gede.
