Danau Buyan Resort

The bathroom layout was the reason we left. Both had large windows facing the neighbors’ balcony and rooftop terrace, leaving anyone using the toilet visible to them. I still can’t understand why it was designed that way. We told the receptionist as soon as we noticed, asked for a refund, and left. They did refund us in full, which I appreciated, but that’s the minimum I’d expect. The villa was also run down. Its furniture was old, torn, and smelled awful, and the place clearly hadn’t been cared for in a long time. I’ve stayed in many places while traveling and never encountered the lack of bathroom privacy we found here. Curtains would have solved it. I wouldn’t recommend this villa to anyone.

We had to switch rooms because so much wasn’t working, and the new room was no better. The showers were out in several places, the heater didn’t work, and the TV kept switching itself off. There was no Wi-Fi, and the water from every sink had a troubling metallic smell. The rooms smelled of old, rotting wood and even urine. The place wasn’t well maintained, and the rugs were badly torn. I’ve been to bedugul many times, but this stay disappointed me. We won’t be back.

The location and the fire were the only things I liked. The villa furniture and bed smelled as if they hadn’t been washed in years. I changed rooms because some equipment didn’t work, but the next one had the same issue and smelled even worse. The carpets were dirty and ripped, the heater was broken, and the villa keys didn’t seem to fit the lock. There’s no Wi-Fi, which I could have lived with, but it added to a long list of problems. I wouldn’t return.

It gets quite cold here, so bring a jacket. The old fashioned villa has a magnificent view and atmosphere, and sometimes you can see fog. Lake Buyan is visible too. Meals aren’t served, but each villa has a kitchen and refrigerator.
