Grand Hotel Surabaya

This place is full of smoke and disappointment. If you like an ashtray smell, it may suit you. Otherwise, stay away. I wouldn’t recommend it, and I’d think twice before coming.

The bathrooms are a mess and the place needs renovation. I booked through booking.com, but the hotel’s rating there is totally misleading. The manager was very kind, though. I ended up moving to another hotel.

The location was the one good thing, close to monuments, malls, and most of the main attractions in the city center. But the room was dirty, with dust everywhere, a moldy AC smell, and dirty sheets and pillows. The bathroom was so worn and outdated that I didn’t feel comfortable showering. I’ve stayed in over 150 hotels, and this would be among the five I’m least likely to recommend. I booked two nights and was already hoping to leave early, but my budget limited the options. Breakfast was brought to the room with a knock at 7:30 a.m., which forced me to wake up early. That was really odd to me. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels, and breakfast is usually a buffet. I slept late but still woke up super early because of this.

The bedsheets were clean, but the room had a disgusting cigarette smell, and there was long, thick hair all over the place. The bathroom was dirty too. The hotel is run-down and dirty, and although there’s a pool, I’m not sure anyone would be brave enough to use it. Not worth the money. Avoid staying here.
