Great Diponegoro Hotel Surabaya

The parking situation is what may make me think twice about returning. I stayed in a deluxe king bed room starting November 11th for two nights, then extended until the 15th. Parking was very limited, so most of the time we had to leave the car beside the hotel, in front of KFC. During Surabaya rain, walking from the car to the lobby with an umbrella was really annoying. On November 14th, the night before checkout, the parking was full, including the usual side area. A security staff member at the entrance had lost his voice and told us to park at the side as usual. There was no room there, so we came back and spoke to him and another security staff member. When we explained that the side was full, the second one got upset, raised his voice, and treated us like we were stupid and stubborn for not following his colleague’s instruction. He said someone would help us park near KFC, but the first guard hadn’t mentioned that when we spoke earlier. The first guard shook his head too, as if we’d disobeyed him. When we went out to look for a space, a man who wasn’t hotel staff appeared and told us to park near KFC, outside the hotel’s area. How were we supposed to know we could park there if hotel staff hadn’t told us? And how can the hotel guarantee the safety of our car if we have to park on another property that isn’t covered by its CCTV? The security supervisor needs to train those two guards on how to respond appropriately when there’s a problem in their work area. It’s a pity because the hotel has plenty of positives. It’s in a strategic area near restaurants and convenience stores. On level 8, where we stayed, there’s a drinking water refill point in front of the elevator. The room had a bolster, which I’ve only found at Great Diponegoro among the many hotels I’ve stayed in. The bedroom and bathroom were quite spacious, and Front Office and Housekeeping provided good service.
