Hotel 88 Embong Malang

The rooms were a little small, but clean and about what I expected for the price. The hotel is nicely located, and both breakfast, with plenty of tasty options, and the regular restaurant were pretty good.

The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom was clean. I stayed for two nights; the water heater worked fine, and there was a dispenser right outside the room. At 400k a night, it felt like a pretty good deal.

The staff were very accommodating, and they arranged transport for us for a small extra fee. We were in Surabaya for an event at ITS, so the location worked well. During our five days and four nights, housekeeping cleaned our twin room on the 8th floor well each day. Toiletries were provided, and coffee or extra toiletries could be requested. One issue was cigarette smoke drifting into our room when neighboring guests smoked. The hotel might be able to address smoke getting between rooms. Even so, we appreciated the good service and found the stay convenient.

The location made it easy to get to the mall and nearby places to eat, and the buffet breakfast had plenty of choices. For the price, it seems worth trying. The room itself is small and basic, with no coffee or tea or minibar, though towels, soap and a toothbrush and toothpaste are provided. The bathroom was the part I disliked: the plumbing gets very noisy when flushing or turning on the sink tap, water pools during or after a shower, and the drainage is poor.
