My Studio Hotel Surabaya - Hostel

A quick Grab bike ride gets you to the airport or nearby restaurants. I stayed one night before an early flight, and the 40-bed dorm was surprisingly comfortable. It was quiet while I was there, and they cleaned very regularly. The bed was roomy and had everything I needed, even a pop-out table. The shower was hot with good pressure.

The location worked really well for me since it's close to the train station, and for a one-night stop this place can do the job. The dorm is huge, with around 30 beds, and people coming and going at all hours were so loud that I woke up every hour. There's only one toilet and shower on the floor, and the sheets didn't seem fresh. Breakfast was just coffee or tea with toast and butter.

The location was the one good thing. We booked separate female and male dorms, but it looked like they only had mixed rooms packed with people. There was just one bathroom per floor for all those guests. The extra bathrooms on the fourth floor were dirty, poorly maintained, and dark, and the bed smelled. Wi-Fi barely worked, the AC was freezing while the blanket was thin, and the bed itself was hard. There's no elevator, and the staff need more training. We've stayed in plenty of hostels, and this one wasn't worth the money.

Right in the heart of Surabaya, and I had a good stay. It's a cozy budget place, though the room is really small. They cover the basics a backpacker needs, including hot water, a decent TV with Netflix, free coffee, and a capsule bed. The staff could use better training.
