The building is large and the location is strategic. It's an older hotel, but still fairly clean. My stay was let down by several frustrating things. At 11 AM, an hour before checkout, reception called to ask if I wanted to extend. I said no and was told to call for a trolley when my luggage was ready. It felt like they were rushing me out. When I asked to borrow a plate and bowl, they wanted an IDR 50,000 deposit. I've never encountered that at another hotel in Indonesia. I also accidentally stained the sheet because of an unexpected period and called the front desk right away so housekeeping could take care of it. After nearly two hours and several calls, nobody came. Later, they suddenly messaged me on WhatsApp saying I owed IDR 1.2 million, claiming the stain had reached the mattress. When I asked for proof, the photos showed only the mattress protector, not the mattress itself. Very disappointing, and I don't recommend this hotel.

We came back to Wyndham Surabaya after seven years, having last visited before COVID-19. The hospitality is still among the best. Some room facilities clearly need maintenance soon, but the stay was still good overall. They also run a shuttle to Tunjungan Plaza once or twice a day, if I remember right.

I made a point of leaving extra time to lounge in the room on my latest visit, since it’s so cozy and comfortable for a longer stay. The staff were all kind, friendly, and quick to help. I felt bad that I didn’t have enough cash to tip everyone, because they really deserved it. On day three, there was a dirty glass left in the wash basin and some tissue crumbs on the carpet. Maybe someone was worn out that day. It’s a small slip, and we’re all human. I also noticed the body and hair products seem to have changed, and there wasn’t any body lotion. Even so, Wyndham remains my first choice in Surabaya, and I’d happily stay again.

Requests from the room were handled in under 20 minutes. The staff were friendly and respectful, and both the local and Western food were very good and tasty.

The atmosphere has an elegant feel without becoming too formal, and it does live up to its five-star name. I found the rooms comfortable, the breakfast delicious, and the staff friendly and attentive. It was a pleasant place to rest and recharge, and I felt well cared for.
