Puri Taman Sari Hotel

When we stayed here many years ago, my husband and I had the honeymoon suite, and it’s still the loveliest hotel room we’ve ever had. The price is still the same, too. I first came across the hotel by accident and visited again yesterday. Since then, it’s added a swimming pool and more rooms, while keeping its view over the rice fields. It’s about 15 minutes from Taman Ayun temple and GAIAislandofdogs dog shelter.

Our night here was an unexpectedly luxurious surprise, the best kind. We stayed in rooms about a four minute walk from reception and the dining area, with forest and rice paddies right nearby. The setting is a relatively intact village of traditional houses, and the buildings were once part of the local regency palace. It also happened to be my wife’s 50th birthday. After just a few emails, Donny and his team arranged a massage, a special dinner with flowers and cake, and staff singing happy birthday. Thank you! The location worked well for visiting Taman Ayam temple and Ogoh Ogoh Museum, both fantastic and free of the Instagram crowd. We booked as a stop on the way to the Astungkara Way trek, which is amazing. One small letdown was breakfast, which was a little basic and understaffed the day we were there.

It felt more like staying with an artistic family than being at a regular hotel. This is a real Balinese family compound, surrounded by lovely rice paddies, and the staff were great. We loved how unique it was! 😍

I’ve recommended Taman Sari to lots of friends, and they’ve all loved it too. I love the place.
