Sima Sumba Hotel

My friend and I booked one night because the hotel was close to the airport and we expected it to be clean. After that night, we both developed intense itching all over. It’s likely scabies, which we’ll now have to treat, and we believe this happened because the hotel doesn’t follow proper sanitary standards. The blanket smelled as if someone who hadn’t washed in a while had covered themselves in cheap cologne, so I couldn’t sleep all night and concluded the bedding hadn’t been changed. I strongly advise against staying here. It isn’t worth the money. The sink was tiny and awkward to wash in, and the pillows were too thick and hard, leaving my neck stiff and making it impossible to sleep comfortably.

The hotel is outside Tambolaka, so you can’t walk into town. You’ll need a ride from one of the hotel’s contacts to go out for dinner. The restaurant needs better ventilation around the egg cooking; after breakfast, we smelled entirely of food. A few vegetable dishes on the menu would be welcome, especially with all the good produce stands we saw in Sumba. Small towels in the gym would help too. Otherwise, it’s a good four-star hotel, with a lovely layout, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, and a nice pool.

The restaurant food was surprisingly good, and the prices were fair. Breakfast had something for everyone. The hotel is beautifully decorated and has a large, nice swimming pool. Rooms and beds were very comfortable, and everything was clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, doing their best to learn spoken English.

The suite was spacious and comfortable, and the room was very clean. Being so close to the airport made the hotel convenient after the flight. I’d highly recommend it to people visiting sumba.
