The Sakala Resort Bali Hotel

The room was lovely, spacious, and clean, and the food was great whenever we ate at the resort or beach club. The location was quiet, but we could still easily take day trips to Ubud and kuta. My fiancé and I spent five relaxing nights at sakala for a babymoon, our last trip before the baby arrives. What made the stay special was the staff. Tiur greeted us each morning at the buffet with a lovely smile and made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond. On our last day she gave me a card wishing us luck with the baby and a little dream catcher to stop her having nightmares when she arrives. It was so sweet, and I cried when we said goodbye. Koming made amazing eggs every morning. She was funny, caring, and treated us like family. She told us about her children and was genuinely excited about our baby. She gave me a hug and wished me luck on our last day. She was always smiling and warm, like a caring aunty, with a beautiful heart. We enjoyed meeting lots of the other staff too. Everyone was wonderful and accommodating, but Koming and Tiur are why we’ll come back when our daughter arrives. We’ll miss them and everyone at sakala until then. Thanks so much for an amazing babymoon! ❤️

We spent ten days here on a business and leisure trip with our young child, and felt very well looked after. The staff, from the gate guards to reception, the restaurant, and housekeeping, were consistently friendly and professional. They listened, helped, and made a real effort with special requests. Our Deluxe Suite was comfortable, with a good layout, and the whole property was clean, including the pool area and poolside toilets. The main pool is nicely designed, and our child loved the little slide and separate kiddie pool. There’s also a kids club right beside the pool. Breakfast had plenty of high quality choices, and dinner at the hotel was a highlight, with delicious Western and Asian food. The beach club was pleasant, although the beach right in front of the hotel was only okay. The hotel can arrange a short shuttle to a much prettier beach nearby. The location is a little removed from the busier local spots, but a quick scooter or car ride makes getting around easy. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend the hotel.

The layout was frustrating. There are almost no bathrooms in the shared areas, just a single stall in the lobby. If you’re having breakfast and need the toilet, you have to take an elevator down, go around a corner, up another set of stairs, then around another corner to reach one. It’s awful. The pool closes at seven, but when I tried to get in at 6:30, they’d already put chemicals in it. That left the beach across the street, where the water is too dirty to swim in and the hotel literally says you can’t. At least they’ve put another pool over there. I’d never book here again. There are plenty of nice hotels nearby, so pick one of those.

The beach was the main downside. It had sunbeds and a café, but the beach itself was dirty and surrounded by hundreds of boats. Fumes were constant, boats kept moving because of water sports on both sides, and the marked swimming area was small, shallow, and not clean. If the beach had been better, I’d have given the hotel 5 out of 5. Otherwise, Sakala Resort was very good. Our butler Weda organized everything promptly and professionally, and deserves a special thank you. The villa was spacious, comfortable, and equipped with what we needed, though parts felt a little tired. Breakfast was good, and we enjoyed the pool restaurant and main pool, with good service throughout. Bali Collection, with many of the area’s best restaurants, is about 5-10 minutes away by taxi. There’s also a hotel shuttle bus, and a Grab taxi costs around €5 one way.
