Mina Tanjung Hotel

The fish at the restaurant was excellent, but getting service was painfully slow. The place was only about 10% full, yet it was nearly impossible to catch the attention of one of the eight waiters. I’d booked two rooms and asked specifically for double beds, but one was a twin. The rooms weren’t ready when we arrived, either. Once we finally got in, there was no hot water. I asked for help, but nobody could fix it, so I ended up showering cold. On paper, the hotel sounded great, with a beachfront location, a nice pool and good reviews. I left very disappointed. Maybe this was an isolated problem, but based on what happened, I can’t recommend it.

We had a spacious, comfortable room and washroom, and the staff were caring. The sunset view was peaceful, and the fresh food tasted good. My one issue was water leaking from the AC onto the washroom wall, which caused seepage and a smell. Otherwise, A+.

The place and its facilities are very good, but I felt the staff were indifferent and not very humble with Indonesian customers. When foreign guests make a transaction or complaint, they seem to get priority and are treated like queens or kings. I paid like any other customer and hadn’t done anything wrong, but I felt looked down on and ignored. I made eye contact several times with the receptionist wearing a hijab, yet she seemed indifferent and arrogant toward me and acted as if I wasn’t there. Please improve the staff’s welcome and care for every customer, not only foreigners.

The location is nice and the room is spacious, but we’re glad we’re only here for two days. Check-in dragged on because they didn’t know who had booked what or whether anyone had paid. They also tried to move us down to a double single-bed room instead of giving us the king room we’d booked. The bathroom had a really strong chlorine smell, and the room smelled a little moldy, though it wasn’t very visible. I suspect it had just been painted over. The Wi-Fi was terrible. There was a beehive in the room, and the neighbors were too close and noisy. We also smelled trash burning in the morning. Music was loud in the evening and morning, though it may not have come from the hotel. There’s a mosque nearby, which could be an issue if you don’t like waking up at 5 a.m.
