We came away feeling rested and much closer to nature. Bali au Naturel is quiet and tucked into near-pristine jungle, with the beach right there, and the staff were warm and ready to help. It’s a remote naturist resort, so it’s worth thinking about what kind of trip you want. The guests during our stay were mostly older people and couples, which made things feel calm. I’d happily return for a peaceful break, though not for lots of activities or a lively social scene.

Getting here is the main challenge. Once you arrive, there’s a lovely garden with ponds and fish, Balinese-style rooms, and two well-kept pools. The beach is just outside, with black sand and pebbles. Mock Kitchen serves tasty food, especially the pancakes and Mahi Mahi, and coffee and tea are unlimited. The staff are always smiling and very kind. There’s also a small gym with a few machines and weights, plus five pretty cats. Good experience.

Four days flew by, and I wish we’d stayed longer. It was my first naturist resort, and I really enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and hearing their stories. The area is one of the few places that hasn’t been heavily developed. I’d come back, ideally with a girlfriend to share it with, but being a single man caused no issue at all. Nobody seemed to mind.

This was our second visit, and I felt even more comfortable in my own skin. We met some lovely people, enjoyed the tasty menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and had a great time snorkeling and seeing fish. The beach also had much less rubbish than on our first trip. Staff are wonderful and helpful, and the quiet, private grounds are beautiful. It’s out of the way, so a scooter is useful for finding little restaurants and villas nearby. We chose a smaller room by the pool; it was spacious, with a big bathroom and comfortable beds. A few small things could improve the stay: the pillows were lumpy and hard on my neck, and a freestanding rack would be handy for drying swimsuits and pool towels after snorkeling. I didn’t want to leave them on chairs other guests might want to use. A net over the bed could also catch gecko droppings. We burned a coil before bed and didn’t get bitten by mosquitoes.

The setting is mostly well maintained, and one pool has a lovely view with birds flying past. I also liked having a billiards table. The cabin was okay, but there was no air conditioning, and its partly broken fan ticked all night and kept me awake on the first night. The gym barely has any equipment and was missing dumbbells. Food at the restaurant was basic. I was annoyed that the menu promised two breakfasts per room, but as a solo guest they gave me only one. Warung Seni and restaurant PenPen are better food options. It’s extremely remote, with almost nothing nearby, and Grab and Gojek weren’t useful. The beach is rocky and has no chairs. I wouldn’t recommend it.
