I spent a month on Bali, and honestly found there was very little to do on the island. It feels totally overrated unless you're happy spending every night getting drunk in a beach bar. Plenty of foreigners live there or have retired there, and some would like to leave because the Indonesian government will require everyone to pay tax on their worldwide income. Many people don't want that and can't afford it. This little German place had nice people working there, but it was really run down and a bit sleazy. It's a nice spot if you want to speak German, but otherwise I'd avoid it.

The German kitchen is good, with honest food and fair prices. I had the goulasch and mashed potatoes, and they were splendid. The owners and staff were friendly and the service was good. Mostly Western food, and the coffee is good when the machine is working.

I brought my family here for lunch, so I can't say what the guest house is like. We had Gulasch, Leberkäse, handmade Spätzle, and Schnitzel, all very good. If you're German and far from home and want an authentic homemade meal, this is the place. Mr Straub, the owner, might join you for a chat and share some of his life story. A lovely spot, and I'll definitely come back next time we're here.

The hosts were really friendly and welcoming, and we all felt at home. We enjoyed the quirky decor and nice pool, and the good German food was a welcome change after so much local fare.
