This was, sadly, the worst place we stayed during our trip through Indonesia. The hotel seems to be about 30 years old, and its age is visible throughout. We brought up our concerns while we were there, but nobody responded, which was very disappointing. The property felt deserted when we arrived, as we were the only guests. There was no welcome drink, and the restaurant was closed, even though it’s widely advertised and known for the restaurant. We’d been in contact before arriving, but nobody told us it would be closed. We also found dead animals in our room, which attracted ants. Being close to nature doesn’t make that acceptable, especially at 1,500,000 IDR per night. We’ve stayed in Indonesian hotels three times as nice for a quarter of the price. The beautiful view and kind, friendly staff are the only positives. It could be a good spot for breakfast or lunch, but the owner should rethink the high rate because what you get is nowhere near what’s advertised. Very disappointing.

I came for brunch, but first wanted to photograph Mt Lokon before the clouds covered it. I planned to look around the park and order afterward. Maybe I should’ve ordered first, but the staff member handled it badly. She shouted at me and rudely told me to order. I complained to another worker and asked for the Manager, but they didn’t come talk to me. After that, I only ordered cake and water because I’d lost my appetite. It’s a lovely restaurant and park with a nice view, but that employee, not all of them, really affected the whole experience. Thanks.

I’ve been to Gardenia Country Inn eight times now. The rooms are beautiful and neat, and the food looks as good as it tastes. I had the pastas, which were so good, and the orange juice was fresh. The prices are reasonable for food that looks Pinterest-worthy. The setting is beautiful too, from the flowers to the restaurant’s vibe.

I came for one night and ended up staying nearly a week. I’ve been traveling around Sulawesi for two years documenting tourism and accommodation, and this place is so beautifully maintained and run that you’ll wonder why you didn’t come sooner. The food blew me away, it’s fresh and delicious. The sweet owner has run it with her family of staff for 40 years, and $100 a night feels worth it. Come if you travel and appreciate nature and the outdoors. If you’re a tourist who expects nothing but luxury, it may not be for you.

The garden is lovely, with lots of birds. We spotted kingfishers and others while sitting there over a wonderful breakfast. The rooms are simple and don’t have AC, but being up in the mountains, we didn’t miss it. The staff were very caring. We stayed on half board and were happy with dinner, which included soup, salad, satay, fish rice, and more.
