Bumi Ubud Resort

We absolutely loved the quiet here, away from Ubud's traffic and crowds, and the staff were kind and helpful whenever we needed them. The rooms are large, separate villas with their own courtyard and gazebo. We enjoyed the plants, wildlife, and sounds of birds, insects, geckos, and frogs. There's plenty of space to walk around, and the lovely pool looks out over paddy fields. If you want peace and quiet, this is a perfect place.

The gardens are full of birds, frogs, bugs and other life, but the bugs didn’t bother us. It’s an easy place to unwind, with a lovely pool looking out over the rice fields and the option of getting a massage by the water. The staff were always smiling and ready to help. We stayed in a small bungalow with a surprisingly spacious bathroom and a clear roof. Outside, there are interesting shops and cheap local restaurants, and I even spotted a fishing shop. A great way to get away from the tourist traps and relax.

The room was neat and clean, though the place itself is old. I didn’t use the bathtub because it looked old and dirty. There were lizard sounds and ants around, which we could put up with, but on our third night, at about 10 pm, we found a gecko in the room and couldn’t stay. We tried the front desk and the back kitchen, but nobody was there, despite the advertised 24-hour front desk. We booked another hotel and left our key at reception without finishing our stay. There didn’t seem to be any other guests around either, which felt scary to me. Breakfast was simple, generous in size, and had a nice view over the rice fields. When staff were around, they were friendly. On our first night they arranged a driver to take us to dinner. The meal was nice, though it cost over IDR700,000 for two people. If you want to be surrounded by nature, the setting could suit you. I just couldn’t sleep with the gecko there, and the lack of staff to help really spoiled the stay. I wouldn’t come back.

The location and atmosphere are nice, though it’s a bit of a trip to Ubud market. My stay was fine, but the place needs a lot of maintenance. The room was too humid because the air conditioning didn’t work well, and moving the AC could make things more comfortable.
