Green Bird Villa

The food was the one good part of our stay. The AC didn’t work and our room wasn’t clean. After dark, poor lighting, slippery paths, and too many mosquitoes made it feel unsafe and hard to get around.

For three of us, the family room was supposed to have a queen bed and two singles, but only the queen had a mattress and sheets when we arrived. The lobby staff said there were no spare mattresses or sheets, so I ended up sleeping on the sofa for all three nights. The hotel didn’t try to sort it out while we were there. The building was old, there were lots of mosquitoes, and the comfort was poor. The villa was far too expensive for those conditions. I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it to other travelers.

We booked three prepaid nights at Green Bird Villa through Expedia because friends were also planning to stay there. They changed their plans, leaving the three of us, including our 18-year-old daughter. Our family room had four beds, with two upstairs reached by a steep staircase. The location was good, with a few small restaurants nearby and much of Ubud within walking distance. But the room was much smaller than the photos suggested. It smelled musty, the sheets were damp and grayish rather than clean white, the towels were dirty, the bathroom light didn’t work, and the tiled floor was in bad shape. The property looked like it had seen better days. Staff were very friendly and did their best, but couldn’t change the room’s condition. After five minutes my family decided not to stay. We’d already paid and got no refund, but left anyway for a much nicer place nearby. Comparing the two, I was surprised by Green Bird Villa’s price. Management should address the dampness with proper dehumidification. Mold and damp conditions are unhealthy, and other reviews mention them too. Clean sheets and towels are basic, and at this price they should be the minimum. I don’t understand the 4.2 Google rating. 2.5 out of 5 would be more accurate. In the same area of Ubud, it’s easy to find better accommodation for less, so it’s worth looking around.

We had a decent stay in central Ubud. Check-in was easy, and staff helped with our bags. Our room, called Nice, was spacious, with a double bed downstairs and two singles upstairs. It had a bathroom and utility room but no balcony, and looked onto a cute pool that got plenty of midday sun. The place felt clean and well kept. We could also use the bigger pool at the neighboring hotel, and there’s a supermarket and ATM close by. The team were young and spoke different levels of English, but with notice the night before, they accommodated our dietary needs. The junction nearby gets hectic, so plan outings early or late if you want to avoid traffic. Our hot water was another issue: it lasted only two minutes, then took 30-40 minutes to heat up again for another two. The receptionist asked us to wait, but there were four of us. After a few days they let us use room 2 to shower.
