I enjoyed my stay at Grun, despite some things that could be better. The wooden floors and walls were lovely, and having the house upstairs felt unusual in a good way. Apart from the issues in the room, everything else was clean, without the sticky surfaces I’ve often come across in Bali hotels. The air conditioning and water pressure both worked perfectly. Getting to the house through the courtyards may be awkward with luggage, though we had backpacks and liked the walk through the gardens. The construction next door affected the view a little, but wasn’t noisy. I was only told about it a couple of hours before arriving. There was also an outdoor sofa covered in mold, and I don’t understand why it hadn’t been removed. Inside, the curtains were very dirty, with yellow stains and black residue along the bottom that looked like eggs. The sofa was dirty and smelled unpleasant, the wardrobe was dusty with gecko droppings inside, and the window frames were dusty too. At 1.4 million a night, I think clean curtains and a properly cleaned sofa are fair to expect.

Mas Yudha and Yegi were welcoming and helped us during our 3D2N stay. The room was clean, and Grün Ubud is in a great, strategic location. This was my second stay with Grün Resorts, after Grün Uluwatu. There are a lot of stairs, so it may not be very accessible for older guests. I also found it odd that you have to pass through another villa to get to Grün Ubud. We didn’t get the jungle or rice paddy view that previous guests had, because villas are being built at the back. I hope Grun can take over that area and expand, as they did in Uluwatu. If you want a small, lovely cabin near central Ubud, I’d recommend it.

The staff are incredibly helpful and always available, and Grün is a comfortable, quiet place to stay if the view isn’t a priority. It’s a nicely designed spot in a central location, so early risers who don’t mind what they look at may still enjoy it. Just don’t count on the advertised rice field view. A large hotel is being built directly in front of Grün, and construction noise starts as early as 7:00 AM. The view is a building site instead of green fields, so it’s best to set expectations accordingly.

I slept so well here with nature sounds around me. The location is peaceful and quiet, just right for unwinding. Yudha deserves a special mention for being friendly and going out of his way to make me comfortable. The all-wood design is charming and cozy; the spiral staircase is steep, but it gives the place a distinctive feel. I’d recommend it for a relaxing stay close to nature.

The room was an okay place to sleep, but I heard really loud bass from the restaurant around the corner. The place is presented as a jungle escape away from town, yet my room advertised with a rice field view looked out on a huge construction site, with workers right outside the window and patio. There’s no pool, other amenities, or front reception. I think it’s better described as a B&B, and you could find something similar on AirBnb for a better price. This place didn’t offer anything special.
