The damp came back after a while, and eventually my clothes, pillows, and even paper bags were getting wet. That was when I realized the wall repairs hadn't held. I later learned rooms 6 and 7 had apparently been rotting for years, with fresh paint covering it up. Water seemed to spill through the roof edge and into the walls when leaves and debris weren't cleared. There was also a sewage issue: when room 7 was occupied, its waste backed up into room 6's pipes, leaving a smell, and there were cockroaches too. I rented room 6 for six months at 3.5M a month. It's one of the smaller rooms, simple, with no AC, but being above ground level meant a nice breeze and cool nights. There were some evening mosquitoes, though fewer than by the pool and larger rooms. At first, I got on well with the owner. After two months she made some repairs so I could stay long term: replacing a loose, leaking toilet tap, fixing the shower head and bidet hose, and painting and repairing the bedroom walls. I came back after a six-week break expecting to stay longer, and was happy to find she'd also put in a second kitchen near my room. The used fridge there didn't really work. Things changed when I found mold in the drinking water, then in the second kitchen's tap water. The owner seemed impatient with what she considered minor requests, and didn't understand or believe the risks of mold or my intolerance to it. She did eventually change the water supplier and fix the tap piping, about one or two months after I first told her and followed up. I left after another four months because of the health issues, and the owner encouraged me to go. I'd suggest looking a few roads west, where I found newer, better facilities for the same price. The owner's kindness and patience had limits, unfortunately. It shouldn't be up to a tenant to teach a homeowner about their responsibilities. Good luck.

Wayan, the owner, is a really kind lady. The place is clean and quiet, with a pool, kitchen, and dining room, and the price is good.

It’s peaceful and quiet here, and the main part of Ubud is close by, about 2 minutes by scooter or a 10-minute walk. Really nice guesthouse for a few days.
