Naya Ubud

They upgraded our room, and my son was delighted with the huge space. The breakfast was very healthy, and all the staff were super friendly. I was surprised by the hospitality Naya Ubud showed my family, and we’d definitely love to return. The only downside was the road, which isn’t very car-friendly. Once you get used to it, though, you should be fine.

I was with a group, and the kitchen served us a vegan breakfast and dinner buffet each day. The menu was varied, creative, and tasty, full of local fruit and vegetables. We also got a fresh coconut and green drink every day. Yum! The resort itself was beautiful and very picturesque, with lovely landscaping. My large room was comfortable and air-conditioned, and each room is different but has what you need. The bathrooms were very large. It’s in a tiny village just outside Ubud, and the road there was sketchy, with big holes over a canal. Our driver could barely get through. It seems better suited to motor scooters or walking than cars.

The staff were genuinely sweet and hospitable, the food was fantastic, and having a retreat driver was very convenient. I was there with a friend for a week, and for Bali it was very expensive. The rooms need updating and better cleaning, and we had a major ant infestation in ours. Construction next door was never disclosed when we booked. Every day, from 8am until sunset, it was incredibly loud. We couldn’t escape it unless we left, which isn’t what I paid so much for in a mindful retreat. It ruined the atmosphere. We complained but weren’t offered an upgrade, even though we were literally the only guests there. It made us wonder why there were no other guests all week. I felt we should have received some kind of compensation for the inconvenience.

The staff told my wife and me that the very loud music was for the ecstatic dance sessions they organize there. We asked politely last week why it was playing so loudly, and the front desk staff member said she’d let them know it was disturbing. But the music was playing again today. This open space is in a residential area, and the noise disturbs me and many of our neighbors. The behavior is inappropriate and disrespectful, especially in the middle of the ricefields. I’ve asked many neighbors how they feel, and if this doesn’t stop immediately, they’ll share their views here too. Please use common sense. There’s plenty of space in kuta for parties.
