Villa Bae by GORO

The construction next door made the second half of our stay at Bae Villa increasingly hard to bear. Drilling and bulldozing were noisy, and burning materials left a smell. We had paid in full for June 16th to July 15th, 60 million IDR plus a 10 million IDR security deposit. The first two weeks were pleasant, but after that we asked management about moving to another of their villas. They said the others were fully booked, so we said we might leave early if we could find somewhere else. After a phone call, management told us new guests had been booked into our villa during our prepaid dates and that we had to check out by noon on July 12th. I texted to make clear I hadn’t agreed to an early departure. I had only raised it as a possibility if we found another place because of the noise and smell. They kept saying I had confirmed by phone and that the dates were already filled. The manager of Goro said, “I already filled up the nights (that we paid for in advance) because I have investors to answer to.” It felt dismissive, as though our comfort and peace of mind mattered less than profit. This added stress at an already difficult time: my son’s sixth birthday was July 11th, and instead of planning his party I was looking for somewhere to stay for the days we’d already paid for. In the end, they refunded only the final four nights. They didn’t apologize or offer a discount for the time we had practically lived at a construction site. The experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional, and had a major effect on our vacation.

You can still feel the natural beauty of Ubud here. It’s a nice place.
