Shindu Homestay Room 6

The manager was lovely and always ready to help. The location is central but tucked away enough to stay quiet and laid-back, which was a real plus. Rooms are simple, but clean, with a hot shower and a very comfortable bed. Great value for the money, and I’d gladly recommend it.

The family’s kindness made this stay stand out during my seven months of travel. One night, heavy rain was making a loud splashing noise in a puddle, and they put pieces of wood in it without me having to ask, so I could sleep. They were just as quick to help when I left my bag in a taxi. They offered to take me on their bike to find the driver and get it back. The daughter, grandma, and owners were always smiling and sweet. Orange and Boba, their two cats, were lovely to have around, and they also feed strays that come by. The garden is lush and clearly cared for with lots of love. The homestay is in central Ubud but on a quiet street. I loved it and would stay again if I return to Ubud.

The women working there were kind, and I liked the fountains, hot water for tea or coffee, and simple American breakfast. My first night in Ubud was still disappointing. I booked online for one price, but on arrival the man asked for 75k more. When I showed him the listing, he accepted the original price. The room I got was older, musty, and humid, even though many photos showed newer-looking rooms. I think there are nicer places in Ubud for less. That was just my experience on night one.

The host family were so kind and helped us from the start, including with practical questions about Ubud. We stayed a week and had a comfortable, spacious, clean room upstairs. The big balcony was a lovely spot to watch the sky change colors at sunrise. Highly recommend.
