The Rice Joglo

The restaurant food and drinks were excellent, and it was an easy walk, around 15-20 minutes, into town. It’s also close to Ubud Yoga House. Being away from the busy center was a plus, though you can walk or bike in when you want. Every room has been thoughtfully put together, with so much care in the design. We loved staying here and would happily return. There are critters around, so it may not suit you if bugs make you squeamish. For me, being next to the jungle was part of the experience.

We’ve stayed at the rice joglo several times as a family, and it’s one of our favorite places anywhere. Each joglo is beautiful, the food is great, and the whole atmosphere is calm. The service is hard to beat. I can’t recommend this place enough.

The cafe and restaurant attached to the accommodation was a real highlight. They made a lovely complimentary breakfast of three or four courses each morning, with tea or coffee, juice, fresh fruit, traditional pancakes and eggs cooked how you like. They catered for gluten-free and vegan needs, too. We ate most of our meals there because the food was so good, with plenty of healthy choices and much of it from their organic farm. The setting is quiet, with beautiful rice fields and jungle all around, yet only a convenient five-minute bike ride from Ubud’s main road. We were taken to our accommodation by bike, with our luggage, and given a quick orientation on arrival. During our longer stay we had three different rooms. Each had its own character, traditional high-end decor and a comfortable layout, with lots of thought put into what guests might need. The staff were wonderful, greeting us warmly each day, chatting with us and remembering our dietary requirements. I’d highly recommend The Rice Joglo. Ten out of ten.

Hospitality is about how a place makes you feel, and this little sanctuary made me feel at home away from home. It gave me everything I needed and more, with a chance to slow down and enjoy the simple things around me. I spent a lovely week at The Rice Joglo, nestled among peaceful rice fields in a pleasant local area outside busy Ubud, but still close by. I’d absolutely return when I’m in the area. Kadek, Ibu Eka, Ibu Kadek, Ibu Wayan, Sonu, and the whole team welcomed and hosted me with so much kindness. Terima Kasih!
