The only good thing about this Royal Palm Villas property near CP LOUNGE is the location. The experience was terrible, and I wouldn't stay here. Power failed at midnight on 14th August. Maintenance came, but it tripped four more times, at 2:00 am, 3:00 am, 4:00 am, and 5:30 am. After that, the fuse switch stopped working. We had to walk out in the dark and switch it on ourselves, and every time we tried to get some sleep, the power went again. My parents barely slept 3 hours, while my spouse and I got only 2 hours. For two mornings around 9 am, the room my parents used had no electricity either. The upper-level villa room was around 1500 sq ft and had only one air conditioner, with no partitions. The bed nearer to it was about 10 feet away, and the other was around 30 feet away. With the ceiling more than 25 feet high in the middle, the room took at least 1.5 hours to cool by the nearer bed, and the air conditioner was effectively useless. On our first night we had to move the bed ourselves after midnight to get some cooling. The upper-level floors were worn and discoloured. In my parents' room, the bathroom door was transparent glass. There was no kitchen despite what the listing said, and the swimming pool was very dirty. All the windows had two layers of curtains except the huge window right behind our bed, which had only a white, translucent cloth. Light came straight onto my spouse's and my faces, making sleep impossible. We asked for a dark covering on the second morning, but it wasn't put up until the third night. It wasn't clear which staff were assigned to our villa. When we contacted someone, we'd be told they weren't part of it, so we had to ask someone else and clarify who was responsible.

The room is spacious and nice, but cleaning is messy and upkeep is poor. The property is dirty and smells of sewers, with dust and insects, lots of mosquitoes, and one mouse. The white curtains have black mold. Not recommended at all!

We're sorry to hear about this long complaint. Many guests have stayed here, some for a long time, and no one else has made a similar complaint; they've enjoyed the whole villa. We'll check with the electric power house and complain about the electricity issue. The power is run by the government power house, and maintenance did come to check. All our guests enjoy the large luxury villa in the centre of Ubud. The air conditioner in the main upper bedroom is 2 meters from the bed, as the photos show. Moving the bed would be awkward because the mosquito nets are fixed around the king-size bed. We did put up an extra dark cover as requested. The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, cupboard, and dining set. The pool is on a cleaning schedule, though the constant rain may have affected it. On the lower floor, the air conditioner is 1.5 m from the bed. The bathroom door is designed with glass, and guests can request a cover if they prefer. Best regards, Royal Palm Villas Team

What made the stay for me was the staff at Royal Palm Villas at Monkey Forest. Everyone was attentive and incredibly helpful. They can also arrange spa bookings, restaurant reservations, event tickets, transport, shopping tips, island tours, local activities, laundry and nanny services on request. If you want a villa in the heart of Monkey Forest, I’d highly recommend it.

The location made it easy to walk to most attractions, and the waiting staff were efficient and helpful. I honestly can’t think of a complaint. The room was superb, the staff were perfect, and everything else was great. I’d definitely recommend this hotel.
