I couldn’t sleep in the upstairs room because of all the noise: pop music from next door, road sounds, mosque noise, construction, and the owner’s guests drinking and smoking in the shared area when I arrived at 10 p.m. There’s no soundproofing. The room has no AC either. In 2025, after living in Bali for four years, I don’t consider that acceptable. The owner told me to use the noisy fan or leave the door open. I initially moved downstairs for two nights, where it was quieter, but the handheld shower had nowhere to hang, and the AC remote had no batteries. They brought some at 11 p.m. Wi-Fi also didn’t work on the first night. The owner tried moving me between rooms, which wasn’t workable, especially since I was teaching a 10-day training that week. There was also a serious allergy problem. The cat got into my upstairs room four times and hid under the bed. I told the manager I’m allergic, and he promised to keep it away, but it kept coming back. I tried to work things out directly before leaving, but the only suggestion was to stay in the noisy room without AC and keep using the fan. The owner said he’d hate for me to lose money and would ask his partner, while continuing to point out that he’d provided a fan. I had to check out early and pay for another place myself because the problems weren’t resolved. I was supposed to lose only one night under the cancellation policy, but the owner charged me for a week. I’m disputing this with him, as he hasn’t refunded me the more than $400 owed. Booking.com only acted as an intermediary, so I opened a chargeback with Visa.

This was my first time in Bali, and the staff made me feel comfortable right away. They’re friendly and helpful. There’s also a beautiful cat who doesn’t bother you. I’d recommend the place.

We enjoyed our time at vertical house so much that we came back a second time. The view and atmosphere are amazing, and Ivan, the host, is genuinely warm and welcoming. Thanks, bro.

I was meant to stay for 10 days, but left after three nights because the problems kept going unresolved. I had to find another place at my own expense, and the owner still hasn’t refunded the unused nights. I lost hundreds of dollars. This wasn’t a change of plans. The accommodation wasn’t as described, with no AC and an allergy issue. The upstairs room was extremely noisy from the first night. There was pop music next door, road noise, construction nearby, and guests drinking and smoking in the shared areas until around 10 p.m. There’s no soundproofing, and I couldn’t sleep. The room has no AC, which is crazy for Bali in 2025 after I’d lived there for four years. The owner suggested leaving the door open for a breeze. For two nights I was moved downstairs at 11 p.m. It was better, but I had to change the bedding myself and ask for batteries so I could use the AC. The host’s cat also came into my room four times and hid under the bed. I told the manager I was allergic; he said he’d keep the cat away, but it kept getting in. Cats are cute, just not when you’re allergic. The manager tried moving me between rooms multiple times, which was disruptive and impossible to work with while I was teaching a 10-day training that week. I requested a refund for the nights I didn’t use, but got nothing.

It was so peaceful at Vertical House, and we had a really nice stay. Thanks to our host for being responsive, available, and kind. We’ll recommend it!
