NIHI Sumba

The team’s hospitality is what stayed with me most. Everyone was sincere, attentive, and thoughtful, and their care felt personal rather than staged. From the moment I arrived at Nihi Sumba, I felt welcome. There was so much to enjoy, from beach horseback riding to seeing Sumba’s natural beauty. Meals were varied and delicious, made with fresh local ingredients. The villas were beautifully designed to sit in the landscape, with pristine beaches and seemingly endless ocean views all around. I left feeling rested, inspired, and grateful. Nihi is more than a luxury resort, and I can’t wait to return. It’s easy to see why it has such a strong reputation among the world’s best resorts.

When my husband got sick, the kitchen made him homemade chicken soup. That small kindness really showed how much care the staff put into looking after us. They were so attentive, often anticipating what we needed, and made us feel like family. We stayed at Nihi last week in a two-bedroom villa that looked out over the sea. Its private pool was our peaceful place to unwind each afternoon, and the details throughout felt thoughtful and beautifully done. Every meal was fresh, inventive, and delicious. The Spa Safari was unlike anything I’ve experienced. The quiet, cinematic scenery paired with deeply restorative treatments made it an experience I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It was uxurious, soulful, and second to none. Nihi is a rare kind of beauty and escape that you carry home with you. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something exceptional and unforgettable.

I was unsure at first because of the Google rating, but the property is exceptionally well maintained and the service really is world-class. A lot of the one-star reviews seem to be from people who weren’t guests and were talking about beach access, rather than what a stay is like. I spent my birthday at NIHI Sumba and loved it. The food, staff, service, room, housekeeping, activities, pool, and especially the horses were all a 10/10. I highly recommend staying here. I also respect the work of the Sumba Foundation and the impact NIHI has had on the island. Its presence in Sumba seems clearly positive, and it’s reassuring to know that staying there directly supports and benefits the Sumbanese community.

Eka and Asna, our guest captains, helped make all our Sumba dreams come true. We’re also grateful to the kind boat house crew, and especially to Vincent, Inda, Jose, Titus, and Dedi for taking such good care of us. We chose Nihi Sumba for our honeymoon, and the team went above and beyond to make it wonderful. I have allergies, and everyone was ready to accommodate me, which meant a lot. The warmth, graciousness, and hospitality of everyone we met will stay with us. There was so much care in every detail. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you for everything 💕
