The Cabin Tanjung Hotel

It's a decent, no-frills place just outside Wonosobo. The room was reasonably clean, the staff were friendly, and the amenities were adequate. Nothing really stood out, but it's a reliable option for a simple stay.

I wish I'd found The Cabin Tanjung HOTEL earlier in my Java tour, especially while visiting the Dieng region and nearby Kaliwiro. It's a little gem in Wonosobo and a great base if you're staying overnight or longer. It's only 10 minutes south of Wonosobo Alun Alun. My room was clean, comfortable, and a good size. Everything matched the description and photos, including the fully working satellite TV and, importantly, the air conditioning. When I mentioned that some ice would be nice, someone knocked on my door just minutes later with ice and glasses. Breakfast was high standard, and for Western guests, rice wasn't on the menu! The room service menu had a good range, including Western dishes, and the courteous young staff delivered promptly. They spoke some English, as did the very helpful reception team. Thanks to Tugan, Yudi, and the young woman who checked me in. I was embarrassed by how little Indonesian I knew. I don't normally eat at hotels, but after two nights here I'll be back to try more of the room service menu. Kaliwiro is only a 30-minute drive away. It's a pleasant, compact town among beautiful hills, with no hotels and no tourists, and it gives you a glimpse of a typical Javanese town. The locals were welcoming and eager to meet visitors. Thanks to all the staff for making me feel so welcome.

Breakfast is decent, and the place is clean and comfortable, with simple, nice decor. There's parking for 10 cars, with room left for motorcycles. The stay is charged by the number of hours you use, a bit like karaoke. The receptionist asks how long you plan to stay, so you don't have to pay for a full stay if you're leaving sooner. Breakfast does require paying for at least 20 hours, though. An extra person's breakfast costs 30k per pack.

After several days of traveling, I needed to get our clothes washed when we reached the hotel. The laundry was fast and clean, ready the next morning. The parking lot was also large enough for everyone. The hotel was clean, and it's not a bad place, but I think you could find a better option nearby for the same money. I booked two rooms for my family for several days. It's a small hotel, and my room had no windows or activity facilities. With the bathroom inside and no windows, the room felt very damp and unhealthy. Fortunately, we still slept well, and the sheets were clean enough. I paid for the breakfast package, but still had to pay extra for an omelet and eggs. Each egg was $1. That's not much, but I'd already paid for breakfast. I ended up ordering two extra eggs for myself and more for my wife. Apart from the eggs, the basic food was okay, with fried rice, fried noodles, bread, and butter. No complaints about that.
