Astuti Gallery Homestay

The staff made us feel incredibly welcome, even though our bus arrived late. They stayed up for us, and the hospitality was second to none. We also enjoyed the food. Breakfast was different each day, and they could pack it for us when we needed to leave for the day. The pool was a welcome place to relax, with cool water and enough depth to swim. The place itself has an interesting feel, and the surrounding area is very quiet. We had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good quality place to stay.

The cook was a very kind woman and tried hard to help us, but even ordering food had to be done through WhatsApp to Mr Bintah. The staff were kind but didn’t speak English, so WhatsApp was the only way to communicate. We didn’t see Mr Bintah after our warm welcome from Mr Bitah when we arrived. He seemed to have two jobs and didn’t give guests personal attention. He messaged to arrange a meeting on our last night, but never showed up. We stayed five days. It’s a nice homestay, but there was no personal communication, which was a big disappointment.

I arrived exhausted after a long drive and discovered that the family room I’d booked through the traveloka app two weeks earlier had been changed to a standard room for two. Astuti Gallery never told me about the change or asked for my approval. That was completely unacceptable and disappointing. The receptionist at the venue was the only person I could reach. I tried calling the Manager, Mr. Binta, but he didn’t take my call, and I was left waiting a long time for confirmation about my refund from Traveloka. This was disrespectful, and I can’t accept that kind of treatment. Where is Yogyakarta hospitality? Think carefully before booking at Astuti Gallery if you don’t want to be disappointed.

Communication was great, and the remote location is nice if you want to get away from the city. But the place was dirty, the Wi-Fi was awful, and the AC in both rooms we stayed in barely worked. They got the rooms cool by morning, but that wasn’t much help overnight. The pool couldn’t be used because it was covered in mold and algae. The seat cushions throughout the property were disgustingly dirty, and the rooms smelled moldy beneath all the air freshener they used to cover it up. The Airbnb photos don’t look like this place. Maybe they were taken when someone was doing a better job maintaining the grounds, pool, and shared areas.
