Griya Langen Guesthouse

We stayed two nights and were really satisfied. It felt like a home away from home, where we could relax and sleep well. The place worked well for a couple, a family with kids, or even a group gathering. It’s a good choice if you want to stay near The Royal Palace of Yogyakarta. Mr.Baskoro and his wife were especially helpful and friendly, and made everything easier for us. Thanks to them, and we’d love to come back someday.

The only other plus for me was the tasty soto (chicken soup) at breakfast. The neighborhood is quiet and doesn’t have much commercial activity around, which was fine. I can’t recommend the standard rooms. They were old, with yellowed lighting, rotting door trim, dusty curtains and windows, and a sunken mattress. The bathrooms smelled of mothballs and had no hot water. I also heard what seemed like mice or rats in the ceilings, even in the mornings. The private suites looked nicer, but were still very close to where I saw mice. Service wasn’t very attentive, though staff were sometimes around and willing to help if asked. They seemed busy with their own daily lives. The kitchenette was piled with dirty dishes and unusable, and each TV channel took a few seconds to change. I think most of the five-star reviews are fake.

This was my second overnight stay here. I booked a four-bedroom house with useful amenities like a stove and fridge, plus a wide LCD TV with lots of channels. The homestay is inside the Keraton area, so it’s not too crowded, and Alun-Alun Kidul is an easy walk away. The owner and staff were very kind and helpful. Recommended if you’re after a cozy homestay in the city. Fun fact, this homestay was once a filming location for a movie called Turis Romantis.

The owner is really nice, and the atmosphere is cozy and peaceful. If you want a budget place in the city center, this is a great place to stay.
