The staff were probably some of the friendliest I’ve met on a trip. When I got ill, they brought me about 20 different paracetamols and kept checking on me, since the hospital was closed on the last day of Ramadan. The hotel itself is good value in busy Yogyakarta: basic but super peaceful, with good wifi, a nice garden, clean rooms, and a location fairly close to the city center. The bathroom was old but not dirty, and it’s outside, so don’t be surprised if you see a rat next to the toilet.

I booked a room at Hotel Seno online in the morning while I was in another city. Before I set off, they emailed to say the room wasn’t actually available. I thought, “Well, that happens,” and was glad I got the message in time, so I booked somewhere else. The next day, though, Seno reported me as a no-show and said my credit card would be charged $30. I can’t tell whether it was an honest staff mistake or a scam. Your mileage may vary.

Our driver booked this hotel and was shocked by its condition. There was no water, the ceiling was broken, there were no curtains, and neither the AC nor the fan worked. He had to leave right away because the conditions were inhumane.
