Liberta Malioboro South

We arrived half an hour before check-in and got our card straight away. The place has a local feel, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn't a huge spread, but it was delicious. Such a lovely stay.

We spent one night in a standard double room. The room was more spacious than I expected for two people, the amenities were okay, and the outdoor area was nice. If you stay at the south property, there's a pool as well. The staff were friendly. For the price, I wouldn't call it a bargain, though it does make some sense. The sheets and towels were already dirty and stained when we checked in, even if they were probably new. They should replace that stock. It might also be time to upgrade the TV at the south property to a smart TV.

Breakfast buffet was amazing, and Rare and Callista gave great service. The place was very clean and felt safe for a foreigner like me. Five stars.

The staff do their best to help, and they were the one positive part of my stay. There are a lot of problems, though. A large construction site sits right next door, so the pool and paid balcony aren't places to relax unless you don't mind being beside the work. I was told construction could take at least two years. Breakfast is outside next to it, too. Low-flying planes shake the room in the morning, and passing trains honk. My neighbors came in at 1 a.m., turned on the TV, and carried on until morning. There are at least two prayer speaker intersections nearby, so expect to hear them several times a day. Despite the no-smoking policy, I sometimes smelled smoke in my room. Cleanliness needs work as well: there was long hair, and stains on the tiles and curtains. There's no fridge in the room. I paid 20% less at a five-star hotel in surabaya, so I really don't understand why this place costs so much. I also noticed that many recent reviews are from people with only one review, praising luxury, tranquility, peace, and quiet. It makes me wonder if those reviewers have actually stayed here or are genuine. I certainly wouldn't describe it as peaceful.
