My wife and I stayed here twice on our trip to Java, and I can think of few places anywhere that offer a hotel experience of similar quality. The staff are exceptional, and the cafe/restaurant serves excellent Indonesian food. Breakfast was varied and inspired too. The building is both a museum and a hotel, and it’s the finest example of a Kalang House. Truly exceptional. I highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Kotagede or the wider Yogyakarta area.

The cafe food was nice too. I’d suggest ordering the fried tape with ice cream. In the library, they sell interesting books, and the librarian was friendly and happy to explain the products. This heritage building has been turned into an inn, library, and restaurant. It’s a very nice, cozy place, perfect if you love old buildings and heritage.

Breakfast was delicious each morning, and I liked getting to try different local morning snacks. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and every staff member was incredibly kind and helpful. A wonderful heritage stay. I’ll definitely be back.

The guided tour was the highlight for me. Our guide was very professional and explained the building’s history and design in detail. Ndalem Natan brings together old Javanese culture with a touch of Dutch influence, which made the visit feel really distinctive. At 75k per person, I’d recommend giving it a try.

We were glad to have the chance to stay here. It’s a heritage house, not a hotel, and our room had antiques chosen by the owner. The air-conditioned room came with a private bathroom, though the bathroom could use an upgrade. It’s worth remembering this is an 1857 building that was 80% destroyed in the 2006 earthquake. There’s free parking on site, but staff may need to move your car to let other vehicles through. You can get breakfast, meals, or snacks at the cafe, and there are nice places to walk to for dinner. The street is busy and noisy, though the bedrooms are at the back and stay very quiet.
