Sartika Hotel

I planned on staying two nights, but I was comfortable enough to extend it to five. The building is old, which means the rooms are spacious, and the mattress was comfortable. Hot water is available, though the pressure could be stronger. There are balconies outside the rooms with chairs to sit in during the evening, plus complimentary water, tea, and coffee. The boss and the guy working at the hotel were both very polite, spoke English well, and were accommodating. Some small aesthetic updates would help, but it's an old building and the price was under 10 US dollars a night. It's hard to imagine getting better value in town.

If you're looking for a cheap place to spend the night, the location is really convenient. The staff are sooo kind. They bring hot water, tea, and coffee to your door in the morning, and there's also a tea and coffee dispenser on every floor. You'll want to bring your own supplies, though, since they don't provide many amenities. For breakfast, try the jajanan pasar spot near the hotel. It's very good.

The receptionist was kind and reliable, and tea and coffee were available in the morning. I skipped the breakfast package, though another review mentioned a boxed breakfast. Tempo Gelato Prawirotaman branch is right beside the hotel, and a minimarket is a few hundred meters away. My standard room was on the top, fourth floor, with a view of Merapi and access to a little garden. It had a bed, two tables, two mirrors, and an old TV, along with two bottles of water and just two soaps. There weren't other toiletries, so bring your own. Motorcycles can be parked inside the building, while cars go outside. For the location, the price was fair. The building and furniture are pretty old, and the bed squeaked whenever I moved. There was no water heater in my room.

A good spot to stay overnight in Jogja if you want to get a feel for the place and still be able to communicate in your own language. You can choose this place or one of the other hotels in Prawirotaman. Usually it comes with breakfast included.
