Wisma Gajah Guest House

There's a nice medium-sized outdoor pool, and the place has Yogyakarta vibes since it's a private residence. The food was quite good, but the bathroom was dirty. The flush didn't work properly, the floor looked like it hadn't been washed, and there were lots of mosquitoes beside the bathtub.

The worst part was the missing toilet paper. When I asked for some, they said, “We don't have any now, ask tomorrow morning”!!! Absurd. I arrived late in Yogyakarta and picked this guest house because the photos looked acceptable, but problems started right away. The receptionist was smoking at the desk. My room was dirty, the shower didn't work and was disgusting, and there was no AC remote. If I wanted the temperature changed at 2 in the morning, I had to go to reception and ask. Worst hotel ever!

The area is known among international tourists and backpackers, with bars, cafes, and restaurants nearby for going out at night. The rooms are spacious, each with two single beds, and there's also a medium-sized pool. It’s cozy enough, with a sitting toilet and hot water. A good budget choice if you already have plans to explore and enjoy the city instead of spending time in your room. Low budget? This is an option. Comfortable and homey, with economical prices. The limited facilities seem reasonable to me, and it's better suited to backpackers ready to enjoy Jogja than to stay in the room.

It's an old house turned into a hostel, with a reasonable price, though it could use some renovation here and there. At night, the live music from the cafe across the street is the biggest challenge.
