Raheen Woods Hotel

Everyone at our wedding had lovely things to say about the hotel, and the food was a huge hit. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth, and there was plenty for everyone. The gardens, the hallway with its luxurious mirrors and the funky residence bar also gave us lots of places for photos, even though I was worried about rain. I loved that the wedding was separate from the rest of the hotel and felt so personal. Oisin was amazing throughout the planning. Nothing felt like a problem, and he made us feel at ease from our first meeting, with thoughtful advice all the way. Annamaria helped us with the admin, and Catherine, the other hotel manager, was fantastic on the wedding day. Ann served at the wedding and Adam was working in the bar. All the staff were so kind and helpful. We got to know some of them at meal tastings and other meetings, which made it lovely to see familiar faces on the day. The staff, service and food are top class. We also held our day two here, and I can't thank Oisin and the team enough. It's a family-run business, and you can feel that in the way they look after you.

The restaurant and bar were great, and the employees were incredibly kind and accommodating. We could easily walk into Athenry, with its restaurants, bars, fascinating old stone buildings and ancient stone remnants. Our travel agent picked the hotel while we were staying in Galway. It's a little dated, but very clean. The bathrooms were fine, though they lacked the upgrades and amenities you'd find in nicer hotels. We enjoyed our stay.

We had such a good time at the Raheen Woods, and our guests had lots of compliments for the hotel. The food and service on the wedding day were amazing. When one guest had a minor medical issue, the team handled it very professionally. Planning was just as good. Oisín and the team were organised, accommodating and gave us loads of help and guidance when we had no idea where to start. The whole experience felt personal, and every request got a friendly response. We couldn't fault anything. A huge thank you to everyone at the Raheen Woods.

I found the restaurant staff at McHale rude and dismissive, particularly if you're a person of color. I ordered a pot of tea and waited while the same waitress brought a pot to the table opposite within minutes. When mine finally arrived, there were no cups, milk or sugar. I asked for a cup and waited ten minutes before another waitress brought one. The pot had only hot water, with no teabag in it or on the side. I'd already paid for it along with my main course before getting the tea. This wasn't a one-off for me. Around December 2024, I also waited ages for a cup of coffee while on my way to Mayo.
