The Bastion

The Bastion B&B is my ideal House of Mysteries, whether I’m making it the destination or stopping halfway between east and west. I’ve stayed several times and am already finding an excuse for another visit. The hosts are helpful when needed and never intrude. I’ll be back to enjoy that feeling of being at home while away from mine. It’s centrally located, within walking distance of most of what Athlone has to offer. Free street parking lasts until 08:30, though you may have to circle the block a few times to find a space.

That little kitchen corner was such a nice place to sit with coffee, tea, and biscuits before heading out. After a day travelling across the country back to Dublin, our cozy, peaceful room felt like a comfortable retreat, with loads of charm. Bastion B&B is perfectly placed for a quick stop in town. The river, Athlone Castle, and Sean’s Bar are just a few minutes away on foot. We’d happily stay again and recommend it to anyone after a relaxed, characterful place in Athlone.

I didn’t find there was much to see in Athlone as a backpacker, but I still wish I’d stayed longer just to get another night at The Bastion. The owners were lovely. I arrived very late and checking in then was no problem at all. We had a nice little chat in the morning. The room was comfortable and accommodating, and I liked relaxing with a cup of coffee in the lounge.

We only had one night in “the long room” at Bastion B&B and would have loved to stay longer. It’s a gorgeous space, eclectic, cozy, and really comfortable. Vinny kept us updated clearly and promptly, and Anthony was a warm, informative host. Thanks for such a lovely visit!
