Shearwater Hotel & Spa

We'd stay here again if we could. This was our second visit, and the rooms seemed brand new this time. The bed was comfortable, the water stayed warm, and everything was spotless. We also had a robe and flip flops waiting for us. The gym and leisure activities are great to have available, and there's a buffet breakfast. Lidl is across the road, with a bar a few minutes away. The location is alright. Our room was fairly quiet, though I've seen other reviews mention noise. There's a theatre room on our floor, but it was a bit dirty from the kids, with plastic bags left lying around. It'd be nicer if those weren't in view. Dinner in the hotel had a great atmosphere, but was very expensive. We paid 160 euro for our meal.

Reception staff were amazing, 100%. The pool and sauna, internet, and parking all got 5/5 from me. Cleanliness was 4.8/5, building access 4.5/5, toiletries 3.5/5, room amenities 3/5, bar 3/5, and sound 2.5/5. Food was way down at 1/5. I'd update the mattresses and hairdryer in the rooms, and offer extra toiletries or a choice. The place also feels low tech. An app or some way to order things to the room online would help.

That bed was so comfy, and clean too. The service felt warm and lovely, and the bar had a great range of drinks. I wasn't keen on the set menu food, though the room service meal I ordered was gorgeous. Breakfast was so-so.

We had to ask about the freezing room and were told there was a heating issue in that part of the hotel. The room keys also failed several times, so we had to go down to reception for replacements. At the restaurant, we ordered soup and a toasted sandwich. An hour went by before we got up to ask what was happening. They asked who we'd ordered from and said the kitchen had reported it sent out. When the food finally arrived, only one of the two orders was there. We had to contact staff again, and my wife got hers with just 20 minutes to spare.
