The Arch Guesthouse

The room was pretty gross. The sheets looked like someone had already slept in them, there was hair in the shower plug, and the mattress underneath was mouldy and stained. No hot breakfast either. The pillows were soft, the duvet thin, and the man who checked us in was rude. We told the cleaning lady about the room, but she said she didn't speak English. The rooms were filthy.

The bedrooms look nice, but it feels like they've just covered up the problems. The beds and quilts are flimsy and uncomfortable. The bathroom feels decades old, with a toilet that drips all night and needs two flushes every time. The door can't open all the way because the rug gets in the way, so you have to shift it whenever you go in or out. The cupboard handles don't match, and there are no plugs near the mirror. The design eye is there, but the details need more thought. For what you actually get, the price is steep.

Manager Ivan's thoughtful attention and hospitality made the stay feel warm and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious, with a good range of choices to suit different tastes. The Arch Guesthouse in Clifden, Galway, is very reasonably priced, and I had a delightful visit. We’ll definitely come back, and I’d recommend it for a lovely getaway in Galway.

The evening staff were lovely and welcoming, and the food was absolutely beautiful. That was the only good part of our two-night stay, though, and we won't be back. The room decor was very poor, the pillows uncomfortable, and we didn't get fresh towels or water. Room 4's bathroom badly needs an upgrade. At breakfast, the staff were dismissive, unfriendly, and unprofessional. They even challenged us when we asked for cereal. We were given one plate of eggs, mushroom, and tomato to share, and I didn't want to challenge them again. It wasn't worth the money, and I could say more, but I'll leave it there. 🙁
