There’s plenty to look at in this historic house, with art and objects that tell its Anglo-Irish story. We arrived to tea and cake by the log fire, and breakfast brought some lovely surprises: Verity’s fresh soda bread, homemade marmalade and jam, free-range eggs, and even honey from the garden. A perfect stay in a lovely house.

Breakfast was delicious, and I’d definitely recommend having dinner too. Verity’s cooking has the same creativity you see around the house and garden, and much of the food comes from her own garden. The old family home is lovingly cared for and sits right by Lough Bane, with a private jetty that’s ideal for wild swimming. The gardens feel wonderfully old-fashioned, with a peacock, peahen and Guinea fowl. We had a pure delight of a stay from start to finish. Lough Bawn House is such a gem, and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

The room was huge, with high ceilings, antique furniture, windows on two sides, a comfy bed and an en-suite. I was working nearby and needed somewhere to stay, and Verity made us welcome with a fire in the massive drawing room, fresh coffee and cake. It’s super cosy, and I liked that there’s no TV. A proper chance to get away and read a book. Breakfast was a lovely full Irish, with fresh juice and coffee and a great view of the lough and sheep. A characterful gem, and I’d stay again if I’m in the area.

Make time to walk back down the driveway and see the extraordinary trees there. The views are fantastic, and this old home has been in the owner’s family for more than 200 years. It was comfortable, very clean and welcoming. Verity cooked us delicious dinner and breakfast, using lots of ingredients from the gardens and greenhouse. There’s so much history, and Verity has plenty to share if you get talking with her. We loved our time here. It’s a special place that deserves the highest ratings.

I enjoyed the loop walk across the farmland and along the lake back to the house. It took about 45-50 minutes and covered 3.5km. Dinner was gorgeous, and it was nice chatting with the other guests. My en-suite bedroom had lovely views over the lake. The house itself is stunning, overlooking the water at the end of a long driveway, and Verity was a very friendly host. A lovely stay at lough bawn house, another amazing hidden Ireland property. I’m looking forward to going back.
